Protect your lips

Whether outside working in your yard or on the beach catching some rays, SPF should be a very important part of your daily routine.

If you have ever gotten a sunburn on your face or lips and he would agree it’s painful and no fun.

Protecting your face and the rest of your body is pretty self-explanatory when it comes to sun damage and cancer, but many people often forget about their lips. Studies show that 60+% of people don’t use protection on their lips in the sun.

Here are a few reasons why using SPF on your lips is important… UV rays from the sun are very strong and sunburn on the lips can be very painful.  The skin is thinner and more sensitive, so protecting it should be a necessity.  The sun can be very drying to the lips so keeping them hydrated is very important to fend off cracking, peeling and burning skin.  In addition to just the sunburn, lip cancer is not as uncommon as people think. Due to the location of your lips they take a lot of abuse and get overlooked frequently.

So remember to protect your lips all year around and if you see something out of the ordinary, don’t hesitate to call your doctor. Most lip cancer cases, due to early detection, are very treatable at an early stage.
