{"id":31,"date":"2017-05-30T13:35:21","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T13:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oxfordsmiles.com\/happenings\/?p=31"},"modified":"2017-05-30T13:35:21","modified_gmt":"2017-05-30T13:35:21","slug":"sour-lemons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oxfordsmiles.com\/happenings\/2017\/05\/sour-lemons\/","title":{"rendered":"Sour Lemons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">What is more refreshing than a nice slice of lemon in your water or a piece of fresh orange?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">With summer just around the corner and fruit in full bloom make sure you&#8217;re paying attention to how much you are eating and using in your water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">Certain citrusy fruits can be one of the leading causes to dental erosion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">Teeth have a very strong enamel; however, that enamel can be weakened and compromised when they are exposed to too much acidic substance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">When dental erosion happens it can cause sensitivity to temperature, decay, sensitivity to sweet foods and discoloration.<span class=\"aolmail_Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">According to the AGD, due to the calcium in your saliva it helps to keep the erosion at bay, unless the mouth is too acidic, then re-mineralization does not occur.<span class=\"aolmail_Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">Here are some pointers for keeping your teeth in check.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">-drink fruit juices through a straw. It will bypass the majority of the teeth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">-you should never directly suck on any acidic fruit, i.e. lemons, oranges, limes, etc. The acid in the fruit placed directly on the teeth will weaken the enamel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">-after eating acidic fruit rinse out your mouth and give your teeth about 20 minutes before you brush them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"aolmail_p1\"><span class=\"aolmail_s1\">-this is by far my favorite, eat a piece of cheese after you eat fruit.
